Announce Essay Contest
To Celebrate 'Beef For Father's Day
All sixth grade students are invited to participate in an essay contest celebrating Dads and Father-figures. Navidad Valley CattleWomen will be accepting entries postmarked by May 1, 2024. The topic is: What makes my Dad or Father figure so great and why he should be awarded a beef gift certificate. The prizes are: 1st prize - $50 beef gift certificate, 2nd prize - $40 beef gift certificate, and 3rd prize - $30 beef gift certificate. Beef gift certificates can ONLY be used to purchase beef either at a local meat market, restaurant or grocery store. Entrants must be in the 6th grade or the equivalent thereof and reside in Fayette, Lavaca or Colorado counties. The essay should be no fewer than 50 words and no more than 250 words and needs to be solely the work of the entrant. To avoid disqualification, a stapled cover sheet with the student's name, address, telephone number, father’s name, school name and address, and teacher's name should be included. Essays will not be returned. Additionally, the winners’ names and portions of their essays may be published in local newspapers. The essays will be judged on both style and content. The decisions of the judges are final. Winners will be chosen by May 11, 2024. To enter, please mail submissions postmarked no later than May 1, 2024 to Suzette Surman at 3834 FM 2238, Schulenburg, Texas 78956. CattleWomen Announce Winners of
Beef For Father’s Day Essay Competition
Each June, Texas CattleWomen conducts a statewide beef promotion activity known as Beef for Father’s Day. Claiming Father’s Day as a great day to prepare beef, CattleWomen kick off summer as a tasty grilling season. What dad doesn’t like to BBQ? As an affiliate of Texas CattleWomen, the Navidad Valley local conducts an annual essay competition. All area sixth grade students were invited to participate in an essay contest celebrating Dads and Father-figures. The topic was: What makes my Dad or Father figure so great and why he should be awarded a beef gift certificate. The prizes were: 1st prize - $60 beef gift certificate, 2nd prize - $50 beef gift certificate, and 3rd prize - $40 beef gift certificate. Beef gift certificates can ONLY be used to purchase beef either at a local meat market, restaurant or grocery store. All entries were from the NVCW service area of Fayette, Lavaca or Colorado counties. This year 118 students from 6 different schools submitted entries. The winners were: 1st place-Brylee Brugger (La Grange ISD), 2nd place-Jesse Hooker (Schulenburg ISD), and 3rd place-Keaton Watkins (St. Anthony Catholic School).
The Navidad Valley CattleWomen is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes the beef industry. The Navidad Valley local works to support local youth with scholarships and provide quality information on the industry and how to incorporate beef into a healthy diet. Additionally, they work to support the community with targeted outreach projects that include a beefy twist. Their next big event is the 5K Ranch Run which is their major scholarship fundraiser. The run will be held on August 3 in conjunction with Schulenburg Festival. Registration is open at https://nvcattlewomenranchrun5k.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=15683.
